"Do graham crackers count as treats?" Every morning for the last week or so, my four year old has asked me, "Is it still  Lent? I don't like this part of Lent." We're not quite two weeks into this penitential season, and the removal of treats has been a millstone around her neck. I can relate; I have a sweet tooth the size of Texas , Alaska , North America. I get asked frequently what I've changed, how I eat, and comments on the weight I've lost, so I thought I'd go ahead and write a post about it for anyone that wants to know. 1. Whew. What a week. We are flying on through, as usual. First things first, immunity is back up for grabs  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARK! Yesterday, hubby turned 34. And now you know that we're old and clearly watch too much Survivor. Lucy gets her photo op, too Also, a huge shout out to my awesome guy who fixed the formatting issues I was having. Something about adding CSS...I don't speak tech, so no clue here, but thank you! 2. I'd love to see a Myers Briggs test on cooks versus bakers. Cooks have large cushions when it comes to ingredient quantities. Bakers, well, that's more like kitchen chemistry. It needs to be precise. I'm an INFP and I'm  not  a baker. All that measuring? Boring, and too much clean up. I'm definitely a cook. I add, I add more, I adjust, I'm anything but precise. It's all about practice. Passing on the Blessing

I come from privilege. I was born in a 1st world country, I'm in the ethnic majority, my parents are still happily married, both have university degrees and my university degree was entirely paid for [albeit not by my parents]. I'm sure if I looked, I could find what tiny percentage of the population this puts me in, but that's not really the point. The point is, while I have clearly lived life standing on the shoulders of giants, I'm wondering how to responsibly pass this on to my children. As Mark and I prepare to close on our forever home I'm particularly aware of, and utterly humbled by, the blessings we've been handed. In the past year, I've been struck anew by the burden of debt that envelopes the lives of many of our peers. These are married couples who both work and yet can't afford to purchase a home, or upgrade to a larger home, because their monthly college-loan payments are larger than our new mortgage payment will be.
